Lady Lions drop SHAC contest to Eastern

Facing Southern Hills Athletic Conference rival, the Eastern Lady Warriors on Thursday, the Fairfield Lady Lions lost the conference battle by a 43-38 score at Fairfield High School. 

The score was close in the first frame as Eastern held a two-point lead over the host Lady Lions at 7-5, as FHS had points scored by Vivian Henninger and Meri Jackson, while Eastern had points scored by Olivia Uhl, Alyssa Johnston and Charli Hauke. 

Eastern took control in the second frame, outscoring the Lady Lions, 16-4 for a halftime lead over Fairfield at 23-9. 

Fairfield in the second quarter had points scored by Rilee Quickle, Addison Cannon and Jackson, with the four total points all scored from the free-throw line. EHS in the second had their points scored by Olivia Uhl, Johnston, Sophia Uhl, Addi Hauke and Charli Hauke. 

The Lady Lions improved in the third frame with a 16-10 quarter in their favor with points scored by Isabelle Hale (three 3-pointers), Quickle, Henninger, Cannon and Jackson. Eastern’s points in the third were scored by Olivia Uhl, Johnston and Sophia Uhl. 

The fourth quarter saw the Lady Lions score 13 points and EHS score 10 points. Fairfield’s points in the fourth frame were scored by Quickle, Landyn Hodson, Brya Fauber, Cannon and Jackson. Eastern had fourth-quarter points from Olivia Uhl, Sophia Uhl and Bently Burns. 

Eastern was led in scoring by Olivia Uhl with 15 points, followed by Sophia Uhl with eight points. The rest of the Lady Warriors’ scoring included: Johnston (7), Charli Hauke (6), Addi Hauke (5) and Burns (2). 

Team totals for EHS were six 3-pointers, 11 two-point baskets and they were 9-of-11. 

Fairfield’s leading scorers were Hale and Jackson with nine points each. Hale made three 3-pointers, while Jackson had three two-point baskets and she was 3-of-4 from the free-throw line. 

FHS also had five points from Cannon (two two-point baskets, one made FT), and four points each from Quickle (one two-point basket, two free throws), Henninger (one two-point basket, two free throws) and Hodson (two two-point baskets). Fauber finished with three points (a 3-pointer).

The Lady Lions totaled four 3-pointers, nine two-point baskets, and they were 8-of-12 from the free-throw line. 

The loss sends FHS to a 3-2 SHAC Division II record with an overall record of 6-2. EHS now stands at 3-1 in the SHAC Div. I standings and 6-1 overall. 

Fairfield will play next on Saturday, Dec. 27 on the road at Marietta College against Lakewood at 1 p.m.
