Fairfield uses strong 2nd half to gain SHAC win over Manchester

With both the Fairfield Lady Lions and Manchester Lady Greyhounds combining for a 23-point first half on the scoreboard, that wasn’t the case for the final two frames as Fairfield’s third quarter pushed them to what became a 16-point win over the visiting Lady Greyhounds on Thursday evening.
The 52-36 win over Manchester on Jan. 22 saw a first half where both teams struggled to put points in the scoring column as the score was tied at 5-5 after the first frame was finished, and Fairfield trailed 12-11 at halftime as they were outscored 7-6 in the second frame.
Fairfield’s third quarter is where they gained the momentum and took the lead for good, outscoring the Lady Greyhounds 24-12, then in the fourth they won the frame 17-12 for the win at Grandle Gymnasium.
The opening quarter for the Lady Lions consisted of a 3-pointer by Isabelle Hale, which were the first points of the game for FHS, coming at the 2:18 mark of the opening frame, and they were followed by a basket by Vivian Henninger for the five-point first quarter.
With the score tied at 5-5 entering the second, Fairfield trailed by one point at the half as their six-point quarter saw all six points scored by Rilee Quickle as she made two 3-pointers.
It was Manchester leading by one point to start the third at 12-11, but that wasn't the case when the third came to a close as FHS won the frame by 12 points at 24-12 for a lead of 35-24. The 24-point third quarter by the Lady Lions had four points off two baskets by Henninger, a free throw made by Addison Cannon and eight points scored by Quickle with a two-point basket and two 3-pointers, including one of her two threes coming at the buzzer.
The third-quarter scoring by FHS also included five points from Hale off a two-point bucket and a 3-pointer, while Landyn Hodson had a four-point quarter with two baskets from the field, and Brya Fauber scored two points with a basket in the third.
Fairfield’s 17-point fourth quarter had seven points scored by Hale with a 3-pointer and two two-point baskets. Quickle scored four points with two two-pointers, Henninger also had four points with a two-point bucket and two made free throws, and Corinne Tolle made a two-point basket.
Final scoring totals for the Lady Lions saw Quickle lead with 18 points, and Hale was next with 15 points. Also in double figures was Henninger with a 10-point game. Other final scoring totals included: Cannon (1), Hodson (4), Fauber (2) and Tolle (2).
Manchester was led by Hayden Rideout with 18 points.
The Lady Lions are now 3-5 in the SHAC Div. II standings and 8-7 overall. Manchester falls to 0-9 in the SHAC Div. II standings and 2-12 overall.
Fairfield’s game on Monday, Jan. 26 vs. Paint Valley is postponed due to inclement weather conditions. FHS is also scheduled to face the Peebles Lady Indians at home on Thursday, Jan. 29 in SHAC action.

The Fairfield Lady Lions fell to the visiting Fayetteville Lady Rockets on Monday, Jan. 19 in Southern Hills Athletic Conference play by a 67-44 final score.
Fairfield trailed 18-12 after the first quarter, and after a 17-10 second frame in favor of the Lady Rockets, it was the host Lady Lions trailing 35-22 at halftime.
The second half included Fayetteville taking the third frame at 14-10 and the fourth quarter as well at 18-14.
Fairfield’s leading scorer was Rilee Quickle with a 14-point effort, followed by Meri Jackson with 12 points.
The rest of the scoring for Fairfield included: Paisley Stahlhut (six), Vivian Henninger (five), Isabelle Hale (three), Landyn Hodson (two), and Addison Cannon (two).
Fayetteville was led in the scoring column by Christina Murphy with 23 points, Audrey Barber with 18 points and Autumn Waddell scored 10 points.
The remaining scoring for the Lady Rockets included: Cara Rummell (seven), Scarlett Crawford (three), Landi Carlier (two), Sadie Moore (two), Lilli Carlier (two).
