Fairfield defends Grandle Gymnasium with 9-point win over Bethel-Tate

The Fairfield Lady Lions won by nine points Monday evening by defeating the visiting Bethel-Tate by a 40-31 score in a non-conference contest at Grandle Gymnasium. 

Winning on Jan. 5, the Lady Lions held a 10-point lead after the first quarter by a 15-5 score, and the score was 24-18 at halftime after the Lady Tigers won the second frame at 13-9. 

Fairfield added 12 points in the third, and the Lady Tigers scored four points in the same quarter, leaving the score 36-27, then in the final quarter each team scored four points for a nine-point FHS win. 

The leading scorer for Fairfield was Addison Cannon with 10 points, as she made five two-point baskets, plus she added seven rebounds (four offensive), one assist, two steals and one block. 

Vivian Henninger totaled nine points, with three two-pointers and one 3-pointer, plus she added eight rebounds, seven steals and two blocks. 

Scoring eight points was Isabelle Hale with two two-pointers, one 3-pointer, and she was 1-of-2 from the free-throw line. She also added three rebounds, one assist, four steals and one block. 

Meri Jackson chipped in with six points off two two-point buckets and she went 2-of-3 from the free-throw line, and she collected seven rebounds. Brya Fauber totaled four points, off two baskets, three rebounds, and two steals. Rilee Quickle ended the game with three points off a two-point basket and was 1-of-2 from the free-throw line, plus she had six rebounds, six assists and two steals. 

The Lady Lions finished with 15 two-point baskets, two 3-pointers (Hale, Henninger), and they were 4-of-15 from the free-throw line. They also totaled 34 rebounds (10 offensive), eight assists, 18 steals and four blocks (Hale, Henninger 2, Cannon). 

Fairfield now stands at 8-3 overall, and they are currently 3-2 in the SHAC Div. II standings. 

Next for Fairfield is a SHAC game Thursday, Jan. 8 on the road against Whiteoak Lady Wildcats (3-2, 5-2).
