Fairfield defeats Paint Valley; falls to Lady Green Devils

This past week (Feb. 2 and Feb. 7), the Fairfield Lady Lions faced the North Adams Lady Green Devils and Paint Valley Bearcats, with FHS splitting the two games with a loss to North Adams and a win against Paint Valley.
Starting with the game against North Adams on Monday, Feb. 2, the Lady Lions lost to the Lady Green Devils at NAHS by a 57-39 score in the Southern Hills Athletic Conference game.
North Adams led 12-8 after the first quarter came to a close, but a 22-point frame in the second quarter by the Lady Green Devils saw they take a 34-16 lead at halftime as FHS also scored eight points in the second frame.
The second half saw a much closer game with Fairfield winning the third frame at 10-9, and in the fourth quarter NAHS took the frame by one point at 14-13 for what became an 18-point win for the home team Lady Green Devils.
Meri Jackson was Fairfield’s leading scorer with 14 points with six two-pointers, and she was 2-of-4 from the free-throw line. Jackson added nine rebounds (six offensive), three assists and one steal.
Addison Cannon scored 10 points for Fairfield with four two-point field goals, and she went 2-of-2 from the free-throw line. Cannon also collected three rebounds.
Rilee Quickle scored four points with two baskets and added five rebounds, with six assists. Vivian Henninger ended the game with four points, as she made a 3-pointer and she made one free throw. Henninger also collected six rebounds (three offensive), three assists and one steal.
Landyn Hodson totaled three points with a basket and free throw, plus she had two rebounds. Scoring two points was Isabelle Hale with a two-point basket, five rebounds and six steals. Brya Fauber also scored two points with a two-point basket. Paisley Stahlhut collected one steal.
The Lady Lions finished the game with 15 two-point baskets, one 3-pointer, and they were 6-of-12 from the free-throw line. FHS also collected team totals that included 32 rebounds (15 offensive), 10 assists, 11 steals, and they had 21 turnovers.
North Adams was led by Emma Pistole with 19 points off eight two-point baskets, and she was 3-of-6 from the free-throw line. She also had five rebounds and one steal.
Tenzlee Burns totaled 11 points with three two-point baskets, and she went 5-of-8 from the free-throw line. She also had three rebounds, 10 assists, two steals and one block.
Sophia Barlow finished with eight points (four two-point baskets), five rebounds, two steals and four blocks. Jacee Davis ended the game with six points from two 3-pointers, two rebounds, one assist and three steals.
North Adams also had scoring from Bella Gray (five points, two rebounds, one assist, two steals, one block), Jaida Harrison (four points, six rebounds, three assists, three steals, one block) and Ava Pistole (four points, three rebounds, one assist, two steals, one block).
Totals for NAHS included 20 two-point baskets, three 3-pointers (Davis 2, Gray 1), and they were 8-of-14 from the free-throw line. They also had 28 rebounds (eight offensive), 16 assists, 16 steals and eight blocks, with 17 turnovers.

Saturday (Feb. 7) the Fairfield Lady Lions won by a 52-41 score in the non-conference contest at Grandle Gymnasium at Fairfield.
Fairfield held a lead of 18-13 after the first frame was complete with their points coming from Rilee Quickle as she made two 3-pointers, Brya Fauber sank a free throw, while Vivian Henninger scored five points in the frame off two baskets and a free throw. Also in the quarter. Addison Cannon scored four points in the first with a basket and two free throws. Meri Jackson scored two points in the first with a two-point basket.
The second frame, Paint Valley won the quarter at 12-4 with Fairfield’s points coming from two free throws by Isabelle Hale and a two-point bucket from Jackson.
Fairfield in the third quarter outscored the Lady ‘Cats 14-4 with 3-pointers from Hale and Quickle, three points from Fauber, three points by Cannon and two points from Jackson.
In the fourth frame, the Lady Lions scored 16 points and Paint Valley scored 12 points. Hale in the fourth added four points, while Landyn Hodson also scored four points with four made free throws. Cannon made one free throw, and Jackson scored seven points in the fourth frame.
For the game, the Lady Lions were led by Jackson with 13 points, and next in the scoring column were Hale and Quickle with nine points each. Cannon totaled eight points in the win, while Henninger scored five points. Scoring four points each were Hodson and Fauber.
Totals for the Lady Lions included 12 two-point baskets, four 3-pointers, and they went 16-of-27 from the free-throw line.
Karris Dye led Paint Valley with 12 points, and Delainey Mamian was next with seven points. Izzy Garres totaled four points, and next were Dejiah Crowder, Mayah Collier, Nevi Conley and Emily Burke each scored two points.
Team totals for PVHS included 12 two-point baskets, three 3-pointers, and they finished 6-of-16 from the free-throw line.
With the win the Lady Lions now stand at 11-9 overall (5-6 SHAC).
