Fairfield boys and girls soccer each win '26 season openers

Fairfield starts ‘26 season with 2-goal win over CM Falcons; Henninger collects hat trick

The Fairfield Lady Lions started their 2026 season with a solid two-goal win Friday evening by defeating the host Clinton-Massie Lady Falcons by a 3-1 score. 

Fairfield senior Vivian Henninger had a hat trick to start the year, scoring all three Fairfield goals in the non-conference win. 

Assists by the Lady Lions were credited to sophomore Landyn Hodson and freshman Daphne Zink. 

Fairfield finished the game with six shots on goal and 10 total shots. 

At goal for Fairfield, senior Meri Jackson had four saves. 

Clinton-Massie goal was scored by senior Ella Groh, an unassisted goal. Freshman Sophie Ashley had five saves at keeper for the Lady Falcons. 

For the match, CMHS totaled five shots on goal and eight total shots. 

Next for the Lady Lions (1-0) is a home Southern Hills Athletic Conference match on Monday, Aug. 17 against the Ripley Lady Blue Jays at 4:30 p.m. 


Lions open season with win against Falcons 

Playing their season-opening match on Friday night, the Fairfield Lions earned the non-conference win by a 1-0 score over the host Clinton-Massie Falcons. 

The victory was also the first win as head coach by Fairfield’s Justin Sowders, winning in his regular-season debut at the helm of the Lions. 

Fairfield’s lone goal was scored by junior Logan Burgess with the goal being unassisted. 

For the match, Fairfield had 10 shots and four shots on goal. 

Junior Anderson Humphreys for the Lions finished with three saves. 

The Falcons ended the match with 13 shots with four shots on goal. At keeper for CMHS was sophomore William Snell with four saves. 

Fairfield (1-0) will play again on Monday, Aug. 17 at home against the Ripley Blue Jays with a 6:45 p.m. start.
