Thelma Stanley named Bainbridge Senior Citizen of the Year

Thelma Stanley has been chosen as the Bainbridge Senior Citizen of the Year for 2011.
She was born March 6, 1927 in Chillicothe. She came to Bainbridge at age 4 and has lived there since that time.
She graduated from Bainbridge High School in 1945. At age 8, she and her family circulated the Chillicothe Gazette in Bainbridge.
Thelma has two sisters, Geraldine Knisley and Mary Frances (Gene) Purdum. One brother, Henry Russell Eubanks (Jassie) is deceased.
Her only son, James Walter Stanley, passed away at age 60.
She is the proud grandmother of two wonderful grandchildren: Jesse James (Angie) Stanley and Jenny Lynn (Kevin) Meyer.
Thelma is a very active member of the Bainbridge Senior Citizens and helps with many of their fundraisers and says “Thanks to all the Seniors who voted for me.”
She especially enjoys the senior meals during the week and wishes more seniors would come. She has been a member of the Bainbridge Church of Christ since she was 8 years old and enjoys singing in their choir, particularly their Easter and Christmas cantatas. Her mother, Edna Mae Eubanks, played the piano there until her death at age 59.
Thelma was one of 30 people who started the Fall Festival of Leaves and has held many jobs and served on committees since the festival’s inception 44 years ago. She is still active in the FFL where she is in charge of ride tickets and helps pass out literature to Bainbridge and surrounding areas.
Thelma states she has met many dear friends during her years with the FFL, too many to name them all. "We have always had wonderful people working on our FFL Committees,” she said.
She serves on the Projects Committee of the Ohio Festivals & Events Association and was named to their prestigious Legion of Honor in 2003 for contributions to the betterment of the Ohio Festivals & Events Association.
Thelma will be honored by riding in the 44th Annual Fall Festival of Leaves parade at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 16 in beautiful “Leaf Country U.S.A.”
The 2011 Fall Festival of Leaves will be Oct. 13-16. Pre-sale ride tickets are on sale at Rockhold, Brown & Co. Bank in Bainbridge, four tickets for $5.
The ribbon cutting ceremony will be 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 13, with the queens pageant at 8 p.m. at Paint Valley High School.[[In-content Ad]]
