SOTHC assembles care packages

Support Our Troops of Highland County met at the Southern State Community College Patriot Center on December 1 to organize care packages for local soldiers.

Volunteer Mechell Frost said that the organization sent packages to 12 deployed troops in combat zones and 10 who are serving overseas. Care packages were assembled from community donations and included nonperishable items, personal hygiene items and fun morale-boosting items such as puzzle books and magazines. Local resident Heather Walter, whose fiancé is currently serving in Afghanistan, made stockings out of camouflage duct tape and donated them for the care packages.
