On April 11, members of the Premier Showmen 4-H Club attended the Ohio Poultry Clinic, where they gained hands-on experience and valuable knowledge in poultry science and animal care.
During the clinic, youth had the opportunity to tour the Veterinary Science building, where they were introduced to facilities and resources used in animal health and research. Participants also learned about poultry meat cuts, gaining a better understanding of how poultry products are processed and prepared.
One of the highlights of the event was a hands-on necropsy activity. Under guidance, members explored the digestive and reproductive systems of birds, allowing them to better understand poultry anatomy and health. This interactive experience helped reinforce classroom concepts through real-world application.
In addition to anatomy and meat science, attendees learned about the importance of biosecurity practices and quality assurance in poultry production. These topics emphasized how proper care, cleanliness, and management help maintain healthy flocks and safe food products.
The Ohio Poultry Clinic provided Premier Showmen members with an educational and engaging experience, helping them build skills and knowledge that will benefit them in their 4-H projects and future agricultural endeavors.
