New Market resident Jean Fawley has started an online business that sells window stickers that are a safety reminder for parents and pet owners.

Her website, CheckOnus.Org, provides information to be used as a safety tool to protect children and pets.

"Hot – or cold – weather is not a friend to a child or pet left behind in a vehicle," Fawley said. "Over 500 needless deaths are attributed to this consequence.

"We live in a busy world with hurried lives," she added. "Sometimes, people innocently forget their beloved passengers, and put them in danger."

It was along these thoughts that Fawley came up with a window sticker idea.

Working with Highland County Enterprise Initiative Facilitator Sid Raisch, she finally settled on a design.

"What could be easier than to place a “CheckOnUs.org” cling on sticker in the back window of your vehicle?" she asked. "This simple sticker can alert passersby to take a quick look and check to see if you may have accidentally left your 'precious cargo' behind.

"As the mother of two grown children, it breaks my heart every time I hear on the news, that this tragedy has occurred once again. Whether it is a child or a beloved pet, it is still a horrible event for a family to experience. My hope with checkonus.org is to reduce these number of accidents."
