Home Food Preservation Basics class to be offered June 28

If you would like to learn more about how to safely can and freeze fruits and vegetables at home, plan to attend the “Home Food Preservation Basics” class being offered by the Ohio State University Extension Office in Highland County. Topics to be covered are canning basics, freezing basics and food safety concerns. You will receive a packet of OSU food preservation fact sheets with the most up-to-date processing times and instructions and recipes. Other reliable food preservation resources will be discussed. The class will taught by Kathy Jelley, Family and Consumer Sciences Extension Educator, Ohio State University, for Adam, Brown and Highland Counties. The class will be offered June 28, 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. and repeated at 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.
If you have a canner with a dial gauge you need to have it tested yearly. Gauges will be tested free of charge one half hour prior to class start time. For testing, bring your canner lid with the gauge attached. The classes will be held in the large conference room located in the County Administration Building located at 119 Governor Foraker Place in Hillsboro. Please call the OSU Extension Office in Highland County at 937-393-1918 to pre-register for class by June 24. There will be a $5 registration fee for the class. Make checks payable to OSU Extension, Highland County.
Additional Food Preservation classes will be offered on June 27 in Adams County at 1 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. in the County Annex conference room located 215 North Cross Street, West Union, and on July 11, at 6 p.m. at the Brown Extension Office, located at 325 West State Street, Building B in Georgetown.
