Hillsboro Garden Club prepares for spring

Courtesy of Jennifer West

President Lynn Luman called the May 2026 meeting of the Hillsboro Garden Club to order. After stating the Pledge of Allegiance, 13 members and one guest answered the roll call question "is your garden planted or readied?"

We are optimistic our gardens are prepared for spring.

The tip was: "Money can't buy happiness. But it can buy plants, and that's the same thing."

Ruth Anna gave the treasurer's report. The spring auction in April was very successful.

Lynn showed the horticultural exhibit of a popular tropical vine known as "pothos" or epipremnum aureum." It is low maintenance but unfortunately poisonous to pets.

Secretary Jennifer was asked to send cards to several members who have been absent.

Jennifer gave a program on "garden myths" such as spreading used coffee grounds or eggshells on soil. There is very little scientific evidence for this being beneficial.

The meeting was adjourned and hostesses Theresa and Ruth Anna treated us to a lovely meal.

The next meeting will be Tuesday, June 23 at 6:30 p.m. in Floral Hall at the fairgrounds. All gardeners are welcome to join us.
