Help Me Grow hosts picnic at Liberty Park

Highland County Help Me Grow recently held their annual picnic at the Liberty Park in Hillsboro. The City of Hillsboro donated the use of the shelter house. Despite the rain, a very nice crowd attended to enjoy a picnic lunch with food donated by the Hillsboro Frisch's and Kroger. Some of the highlights were an RIF (Reading Is Fundamental) book distribution to all children in attendance. All dads in attendance were given a wooden craft to construct, donated by Lowe's. The local Dairy Queen donated free DQ ice cream certificates for all children who attended. Kings Island donated six tickets which were given away as door prizes. Commissioner Shane Wilkin was on hand to grill and serve lunch.
Highland County Help Me Grow is a program for Ohio's expectant parents, newborns, infants and toddlers. It provides health and developmental services so that children start school healthy and ready to learn. Service coordination, family support, playgroups, developmental assessments, parents as teachers education, home visitor and transition are the services Help Me Grow provides. The program provides free assistance to enrolled infants and toddlers from birth to 3. Interventions in a child's first three years help the infants and toddlers to thrive, so as youths they choose healthy behaviors. Help Me Grow provides prevention and early services for children and their families who are at risk of developing behavioral health disorders. It also addresses the needs of the children and families.
