Habitat for Humanity announces raffle winner; home building, store renovation plans

The Highland County Habitat for Humanity recently concluded a raffle fundraiser, as the organization makes plans for a home build in Lynchburg this spring and completes renovations on their local store in uptown Hillsboro.
The Highland County Habitat for Humanity held raffle drawings every Wednesday during the months of November and December for the chance to win the grand prize, a $300 grill/smoker donated by Lowe's, as well as food and restaurant gift certificates.

Raffle prizes were donated by the following generous sponsors: Highland Lanes; Giovanni's Pizza; Save-A-Lot; #1 China Buffet; Cowaburger; Ponderosa; Freedom Farm Market Organic Grocery; Twenty Four Exchange; La Cascada Mexican Restaurant; Community Market; and Big Ernie's Pizza.
Chuck Emery from Hillsboro was the lucky winner of the Lowe's grill/smoker. Proceeds from the raffle raised over $500, which have been earmarked toward the 2018 home build for a local needy family.
Land was acquired in 2016 through a donation to Habitat by the Village of Lynchburg. Construction is scheduled to begin in the Glenavy subdivision in late spring 2018. In addition to the home build and the fundraising raffle, Habitat continues to provide discounted new and gently used home repair and decor items at their store, located at 160 West Main Street in Hillsboro. Habitat has also recently created an online store via the Highland County Habitat for Humanity Facebook page (http://facebook.com/highlandcountyhabitatforhumanity) for customers to view and purchase many of the donation center items 24/7, especially while the store undergoes some renovation projects. The renovation this winter includes receiving an installed HVAC system (via a private donation), painting and expanding the storefront for more area to display inventory.
Once store renovations are complete, there will be a grand re-opening, currently scheduled for Saturday, April 7. The community is invited to attend the ribbon-cutting ceremony at 10 a.m., along with a reception to follow. The store will be open from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.
