Greenfield Lions Club celebrates 60 years of service

The Greenfield Lions Club will celebrate its 60-year anniversary on November 10, 2011 from 6:30-7:30 p.m., by hosting a birthday party at the Greenfield First United Methodist Church located on the corner of South and Fourth Streets.
Representatives or members of local community and school service organizations are invited to stop by for cake and ice cream during the hour long celebration and are asked to bring a birthday gift of eyeglasses for Lions Club projects or nonperishable food items for the local food pantry.
Since the club’s chartering in 1951, its members have worked on a variety of projects in the local community, such as sponsoring eye screenings for kindergarten students, collecting eyeglasses and hearing aids, paying for eye examinations and glasses, supporting such Lions Club eye projects as Pilot Dogs organizations, and donating time and funds to numerous service organizations that provide for the medical, financial, clothing and nutritional needs of our local community members. Proceeds from past fundraising events have also gone to support local youth organizations such as New Directions, school groups, and Camp Dovetail. The club is currently undertaking its Sight Seals project and will open a Christmas Lions Club candy store on Jefferson Street from Saturday, Nov. 26 through Friday, Dec. 23 to raise funds for its projects.
President Ryan Reeves and Vice President Jay Hardy will be on hand to greet members of local Lion Clubs and other local service organizations invited to the 60th anniversary celebration not only to recognize this milestone in the club’s history but also to recognize all service organizations who work for the good of their communities and who have supported Lions Club projects.
The Greenfield Lions Club has 26 members and meets on the second Thursday of each month at 6:30 p.m. at the Greenfield Life Squad Building on North Washington Street. Lions clubs are a group of men and women who identify needs within the community and work together to fulfill those needs.
