DAR Chapter installs new board of managers

The June meeting of the Waw-wil-a-way Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution was held at the home of Kimberly Jacobs.
More than 30 members and guests enjoyed a delicious luncheon served by Becky Anway, Jeannie Snapp, Rosemary Ryan and Mary Ann Nicol.
The chapter board of managers for the 2010-13 term were installed. Pat Young will continue as Regent. Rosemary Ryan, the chapter’s newest member, was welcomed.
Waw-wil-a-way will sponsor the 4-H Living History project award at the Highland County Fair.
It was reported that in Recognition of Excellence in American History and Good Citizenship 44 certificates and 10 medals were presented to deserving eighth grade students attending school in Hillsboro, Greenfield, Lynchburg, Leesburg and Mowrystown.
Many awards from the National, State and Chapter level were distributed to members. Martha Saylor and Jean Wallis received their 40 years of service certificates as did Stephanie Evans for 25 years.
Committee reports of the Junior American Citizens and Children of the American Revolution were given. Awards had been received, National contest won, pick up litter projects completed, parade routes lined with flags, speeches made at Memorial Day programs and American History Days attended by members.
DAR will participate in the June 14 Highland County Honor Guard Flag Day Program at the AMVETS. The next meeting will be held Aug. 21 in Columbus during the State Fall Fun Fair.
An entertaining and informative “Building a Habitat” slide program was presented by Grace and Ron Minor on their many recent adventures in Chillicothe, Missouri while building houses with Habitat for Humanity. We were very impressed by Grace and Ron, both in their 80s, as they continue doing community projects.
Following the meeting a Daughter of the American Revolution marker was placed for Rose Marie Wilkin and a Wright Patterson Fire Department marker for Charles C. Wilkin in the Prospect Cemetery.[[In-content Ad]]
