Christmas in Marshall Dec. 1
The Marshall School Committee invites everyone to the seventh annual
Christmas in Marshall, Dec. 1, 4-8 p.m. at the Marshall School gymnasium in
Marshall. Enjoy turkey and dressing, homemade noodles, mashed potatoes and
all the trimmings. A freewill donation will be accepted. Have your picture
taken with Santa, or participate in the benefit auction beginning at 7 p.m.
All proceeds will benefit the preservation of the Marshall School Gymnasium.

First Presbyterian Church of Greenfield dinner Dec. 9
The First Presbyterian Church of Greenfield will be serving dinner on Sunday, Dec. 9 from noon-1:30 p.m. The menu will include ham loaf, harvest potatoes, green beans, coleslaw, desserts and drinks. Breakfast with Santa
SATH will sponsor its 17th annual Breakfast with Santa on Saturday, Dec.
8 at the Hillsboro Elementary cafeteria. Breakfast will be served from 9-11
a.m. The cost is $8 per child and $5 per adult. Activities for the children
include getting their picture taken with Santa, making a Christmas
decoration with the help of Santa’s elves and decorating cookies with Mrs.
Claus, all of which can be taken home with them. Adults can even start their
Christmas shopping at the Santa Sale.

The Southern State Singers will present their 14th annual Christmas

Highland County Junior Fair
market steer tagging Dec. 1
Highland County Junior Fair exhibitors planning to take a steer to the
Highland County Fair in 2013 are reminded that the steer tagging weigh-in
will be Saturday, Dec. 1 from 7-9 a.m. at the Union Stockyards in Hillsboro.
This will be the only day steers can be tagged for the Highland County
Fair for 2013.
Nose prints will be taken. County Bred and Born exhibitors will need
birth date of steers, the breeder’s name, address and phone number.
Tags cost $1.50 per animal.
In case of extremely bad weather, please listen to Buckeye Country, WCHO
and WVNU after 6 a.m. the morning of the weigh-in. Call the Union

VFW Post 9094 fish fry
VFW Post 9094 will hold a fish fry on Saturday, Dec. 1 from 4:30-7 p.m.
Meals are $7 and include all the fish you can eat, fries, slaw, hush puppies

Children’s Holiday
Tea Party Dec. 1
The Highland County Historical Society will host a Children’s Holiday
Tea Party at Highland House Museum on Saturday, Dec. 1 at 2 p.m. Treat your
young ones to an enchanting start to the holiday season. The afternoon will
begin with a brief presentation on the traditions and etiquette of tea
parties, continue with an elegant tea party and conclude with a performance
by a professional clown/magician. Seating is limited, and advance

Craft Fair & Bazaar Dec. 1
The Mowrystown Holiday Craft Fair & Bazaar will be held at Whiteoak High

Santa will be making an appearance following the holiday parade, which

Christmas at the Cabin
It’s time for the 32nd annual Christmas at the Cabin with Dave and Janny
Brizius at 7757 Cave Road, east of Hillsboro off U.S. 50. The cabin will be
open through Dec. 16 on Tuesdays-Saturdays from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. and Sundays

Boy Scouts collecting
food for area pantries

Ag Reality programs
On Dec. 7 from 9 a.m.-1:30 p.m., OSU Extension, Hillsboro, Leesburg and
Lynchburg FFA, and numerous farm serving agencies will be hosting Ag Reality
(a real-life simulation) at the Hi-TEC Center in Hillsboro. Mowrystown FFA
will be participating on Dec. 14 at the Gateway Center.

Highland County Hammers
12U Select Baseball 2013
The newly formed Highland County Hammers 12U select baseball team will
be conducting indoor tryouts for the spring/summer of 2013 on Dec. 4, 2012
from 6-8 p.m. and on Dec. 9, 2012 from 2-4 p.m. The Hammers completed their
fall baseball season undefeated at Tealtown Ballpark (11-0) in Milford. They
are looking to add players to help continue to build on the fundamental
style of baseball. The Hammers will be playing in the Central Ohio Youth
Baseball League. Practices will be held at the Leesburg Ballpark on S.R. 28,
which will serve as the home field where half the games will be played. The
remainder of games will be contested in the Columbus area. Interested

Wilkin Alumni Memorial Scholarship Tournament
The Lynchburg-Clay FFA Chapter will be hosting the annual Greg Wilkin
Memorial Scholarship Basketball Tournament on Dec. 26-27 at the
Lynchburg-Clay High School gym. The Lynchburg-Clay Young Farmers originally
created this tournament so the FFA Chapter could award scholarships to the
graduating seniors that meet the guidelines set forth by the Lynchburg-Clay
Agriculture Education Department. The tournament is held during each
Christmas holiday and is the main source of income for the scholarships.

breakfast Dec. 1
The Lynchburg Lions Club will hold their monthly pancake and sausage
breakfast on Saturday, Dec. 1 at the Lynchburg Lions Club/Gun Club Building
on Sharpsville Road in Lynchburg. The breakfast will be served from 8-11
a.m. It will feature an all-you-can-eat pancake and sausage breakfast plus

Highland County Democratic Women, Central and
Executive Committee Christmas dinner Dec. 3
The Highland County Democratic Women and the Highland County Democratic
Central and Executive Committee will hold their annual joint carry-in
Christmas dinner and auction on Monday, Dec. 3 at 6:30 p.m. at the County
Administration Building. Meat, drinks and table service will be provided. A
silent auction will be held throughout the evening. The public is cordially
invited to attend for a lively evening of fun and food. Each attendee is
urged to bring canned goods to be donated to Samaritan Outreach.

Mammograms offered
at Health Department
Women ages 40 and older should receive a mammogram ever year. Early
detection of breast cancer can significantly improve a woman’s chance of
survival.
Thanks to a generous grant from the Susan G. Komen Foundation and St.
Elizabeth Hospital, mammograms will be offered at no cost on Friday, Dec. 7.
St. Elizabeth Hospital’s mobile unit will provide mammogram screenings at
the Highland County Health Department for women ages 40 and older.
Women do not have to be a resident of Highland County to take advantage
of this service. Women with or without insurance coverage are eligible to
receive a mammogram. Medicare, Medicaid and private insurances will be
billed. However, no one will be responsible for any deductible, co-pays or
out-of-pocket expenses.

New Vienna Community Church puppet ministry Dec. 8
The Puppet Ministry of New Vienna Community Church returns on Saturday,
Dec. 8 for a presentation called “Follow the Star.”
The program will begin at 7 p.m. with a Christmas musical for children
and the young at heart. It is a fun and joyous reminder of why the three
wise men of the Christmas story sought after Christ and why we still do
today.
More commonly known as the “Three Wise Men,” “Magi” or “Three Kings,”
their journey is an amazing story of obedience, faith and worship. Join the
fantastic story of the three companions as they set their sights on a bright
star in the heavens that would ultimately lead them to the “Christ Child,”
the “King of all Kings.”
Following the presentation, Pastor Dan Mayo will bring the children
forward for some Christmas children’s moments followed by the traditional
candle-lighting service.
Refreshments will be served to conclude the evening and treats given to
all the children.

Mrs. Claus returns to
Christmas at the Cabin
Mrs. Claus will make an appearance at Christmas at the Cabin on Friday,
Nov. 30 and Saturday, Dec. 1. Santa will be joining her and Santa Belle will
be on hand to take photos. Christmas at the Cabin is on Cave Road, just off
of U.S. Route 50, midway between Hillsboro and Chillicothe, and four miles
west of Bainbridge.
An authentic old log cabin, it w as built by John Kinnison, who
turned 100 years old while he was building it for Janny Brizius’ father.
(The story of Old John is just one of the stories about the cabin which,
if you twist Janny’s arm a bit, she’ll be glad to share. There is also a
very sweet love story which folks never tire of hearing.)
In between visiting with Santa and Mrs. Claus and also hearing the
delightful stories, you’ll probably want to shop a bit, as the cabin has
some fabulous bargains.
Open through Dec. 16, every day except Mondays, the cabin offers a
different and pleasurable type of shopping for Christmas.

Hillsboro mayor mulls
removal of Main Street

Hillsboro Mayor Drew Hastings said this week he is considering the
removal of the traffic lights on West Main Street at the public library, “in
an ongoing effort to streamline Hillsboro’s traffic congestion.”
According to a news release from the mayor’s office, the traffic lights
would be replaced by stop signs on Willettsville Pike and Oak Street or with
yellow flashing caution lights on Main Street and red flashing stop lights
on Willettsville Pike and Oak Street.
“The loss of the high school at that location warrants a fresh look at
the necessity for the traffic lights,” the mayor said. “This change would
only occur if the citizenry weighs in and feels this would be a benefit.”

Basketball Tournament
The 2012 Pee-Wee Christmas Basketball Tournament will be held at
Whiteoak High School beginning Dec. 16. Entry fee is $40 per team. Fourth,
fifth and sixth grade divisions for both boys and girls will be available.
All players for each team must attend the same school.
