Community enjoys 2011 Lynchburg Village Christmas

The annual Lynchburg Village Christmas was a big success in 2011, according to chairmen/organizers Bill and Angie McTague.
The 2011 event was held Dec. 9-10 and included a village-wide open house for homes and businesses, free carriage rides and prize giveaways. A total of 39 vendors, including Lynchburg businesses and homes and out-of-town vendors, participated in the event.
"The 2011 Lynchburg Village Christmas might be the biggest since its beginning," chairman Bill McTague said. "This year, as in the past, we had out-of-town vendors at the firehouse, but we had to add the Village Council Room in town to house the extra vendors."
Free carriage rides were provided due to generous donations by Pitzer Trucking; Davis-Turner Funeral Home; Terry's Grocery; Rammel Poured Walls; Roger, Judy, Pam and Taylor Turner; and Dan and Sharon McCloud, managers of the Lynchburg Commons apartments, who also donated a free meal of sloppy joes, chips and drinks during the Village Christmas.
The Lynchburg branch of Southern Hills Community Bank donated a flat-screen TV, which was given away as a free raffle, for the third consecutive year.
"We cannot thank them enough for their generosity," McTague said. "We truly are blessed with the Christmas spirit, and with their generosity, we are able to bring people to our quaint little village, which we think of as Highland County's best-kept secret."
McTague added that the event would not be possible without the many artists and crafters who work year-round at their crafts and open their homes to the public for the two-day event.
"Come to Lynchburg during our Village Christmas, which is always the second weekend in December, and we will treat you to the very best our village has to offer, which is friendly, courteous, honest and generous people," McTague said. "Many villages do this same thing, but we feel our village has committed people to make this event successful. I would like to thank the carriage sponsors, the TV sponsor and the vendors for making this event possible and for making it better every year."
