CHECK IT OUT: Leesburg Library prepares for summer reading program

By
Sharon Aukeman-
We hope you will stop by to visit us at the Leesburg Library during May as we begin our preparations for another fun-filled summer reading program.

Representative Cliff Rosenberger is sponsoring a “Legislator for a Day” Essay Contest. All fifth through eighth graders are encouraged to participate. Complete details are available at our front desk, but the deadline for entries is May 18, so participants will need to start writing now.

Our Knit Together group continues to meet every Thursday from 5:30-7 p.m. New knitters are always welcome.

Dawna Jo Kiesling from the Highland County Extension Office will be visiting us on Monday, May 9 from 3-5 p.m. and Thursday, May 12 from 10-12 p.m. Stop by to chat and get some great recipes from her.

Sparx, our teen book group, will meet on Thursday, May 12 at 5:30 p.m. The teens are reading “The Devil’s Breath” by David Gilman. Copies are available at the front desk. Join us for pizza & pop and help us plan how we will be celebrating summer reading. We also have a great selection of new young adult books. Come and get them before they fly off the shelves! RRR, our adult book group, will be having an outing for their May 19 meeting.

It’s Summer Reading Time and our theme this year is One World, Many Stories. We hope all kids, teens and adults will join us on Saturday, May 21 from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. for our Kick-Off Cook Out. Come in and sign up for the program for your age group and have lunch on us! We’ll have hot dogs and other treats for patrons of all ages. While you’re eating your lunch, you can learn about all the programs, contests and prizes we will have for you throughout the summer. If you can’t join us on May 21, you can still sign up for the reading program throughout the summer.

Children’s story times continue on Thursday mornings at 10 a.m. for Wee Ones (6-36 months) and 10:30 a.m. for Tater Tots (3-5 yrs.). Themes for May include: Mother’s Day, Down on the Farm, and Summer Reading Fun. Call or stop by for more details.

We will be closed on Monday, May 30 in honor of Memorial Day and our veterans who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country. Please feel free to use the outdoor book drop to return items.

We are all looking forward to seeing you in May. We hope you will be as excited as we are to embark on another summer reading adventure. Join us as we travel to new destinations on our summer reading excursions.[[In-content Ad]]
