Buford community hosting Memorial Day service May 29

By
Rudy Diskete

Please join the Buford Community on May 29, starting at 11 a.m. at the Buford Cemetery, to honor fallen veterans.

There are a lot of people who confuse Memorial Day with Veterans Day. The following will explain the difference between the two holidays.

• Memorial Day: This holiday honors military personnel who died in service of their country, particularly those who died in battle or as a result of wounds sustained in battle.

• Veterans Day: This holiday honors everyone who has served in the military, whether or not they served in wartime or died in battle.

The schedule of events is as follows:

• Opening prayer/Pledge of Allegiance: Bob Cockrell – Minister, Buford Church of Christ.

• Musical Medley/National Anthem: Whiteoak High School Band, Director Alex McKenna.

• Guest Speaker: Major Morrow – Retired U.S. Air Force.

• Rifle Volley: Highland County Veterans Honor Guard.

• Taps: Whiteoak High School Band.

• Closing prayer and remarks: Glenn Hess – Elder, Union Church of Christ.

We would like to give a special thank-you to the Rammel family, Mark Rembis and others for their continued support in making sure that each and every one of our veterans have an American flag on their gravesite.
