Adena-Pike affiliation kicks off March 1

CHILLICOTHE – Effective March 1, Pike Health Services officially becomes part of the Adena Health System.
Last year, after preliminary discussions with other healthcare organizations, Pike Health Services entered into formal negotiations with Adena. Since then, the boards of trustees from both organizations signed and approved affiliation documentation, which was filed with the Ohio Attorney General’s Office.
“This is a historic development that will greatly benefit patients, as well as our two organizations,” said Jeff Graham, Adena’s Chief Strategy Officer, and Craig Solle, Pike’s President and Chief Executive Officer.
“The long-term financial stability of our hospital and our ability to continue to provide services to our community were essential throughout the negotiations with Adena,” Solle said.
As Pike’s operational costs increased, reimbursement rates declined and healthcare reform continued to take shape, “it made sense for Pike to affiliate with a larger health system and a regional provider, like Adena,” Solle said.
Even before negotiations began between the two organizations, Adena and Pike had a working relationship, with Adena providing surgical-services support to Pike Health Services.
“Patients will benefit the most from this affiliation,” said Solle.
“Adena will be enhancing existing services and developing new patient services at Pike. There also will be an extensive investment in a technology platform surrounding Electronic Medical Records. This EMR system will drive real-time patient information to physician providers, which will enhance quality outcomes in patient care.” Graham said.
“The affiliation also helps to advance Adena’s strategy for regional growth and keeps quality care close to home for area residents while fulfilling Adena’s vision to become the best healthcare system in the nation,” Graham said.
Pike Health Services becomes the second critical access hospital to join Adena. In 1999, Adena Health System and Greenfield Medical Center joined together to create the Adena Greenfield Medical Center.
Very similar to Pike, Greenfield Medical Center was looking for a partner to continue operations and keep services available to the area residents of Highland County.
