2010 Highland County 4-H Older Youth Opportunities

Each year, older teens throughout the county receive college scholarships through the Highland County 4-H program. Current 4-H members, who are graduating seniors, or alumni of the Highland County 4-H Program, are eligible to apply for the scholarships. The 2010 scholarship applications are due to the OSU Extension office by January 22. Possible scholarships include: the 4-H Endowment scholarships, J. Howard & Josephine S. Fettro, Geraldine Roush Hudson, Darrell & Jane Tissot, William M. & Darlene Aldridge, Robert A. and Dorothy M. Hodson, the Five Points Implement Company 4-H scholarships, and the Ohio 4-H Foundation scholarships.

Any older 4-H youth are also eligible to apply for the Ohio 4-H Achievement Awards. The Ohio 4-H Achievement awards were established in 1991 to highlight overall 4-H achievement in a particular program area. There are currently 24 program areas to which youth can apply. Older youth can also increase their involvement and leadership skills by volunteering to be a 4-H Camp Counselor. Each year, Highland County 4-H sends numerous 4-H members to Canter¹s Cave 4-H Camp in Jackson. Highland County Camp Counselors must be at least 14 years of age as of January 1, 2010. First year counselors must complete 24 hours of training. Tenured counselors must complete 20 hours of training each year. For the opportunity to participate in a fun, exciting camp experience this summer, apply to be a 4-H Camp Counselor by January 22.
