OVI sobriety checkpoint planned in Clermont County Friday

The Batavia Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol announced Thursday that an OVI checkpoint will be held in Clermont County Friday night.

The OVI checkpoint, funded by federal grant funds, is planned to deter and intercept impaired drivers.

Based on provision data, there were 11,833 OVI-related crashes in which 668 were fatal crashes resulting in 726 deaths and over 4,808 people were injured in Ohio in 2022.

Lieutenant Dexter Howard, Commander of the Batavia Patrol Post said, “State troopers made 15,036 OVI arrests in 2022 in an attempt to combat these dangerous drivers. OVI checkpoint designed to not only deter impaired driving, but to proactively remove these dangerous drivers from our roadways.”

The location of where the checkpoint will take place will be announced Aug. 18.
