ODNR invites Girl Scouts to experience an adventure-filled weekend
The Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) is calling on all Girl Scouts to explore and learn during the fifth annual Girl Scouts Love Ohio State Parks weekend, Sept. 8-10.
Several state parks around Ohio will offer various programs for Girl Scouts of the USA (GSUSA), where ODNR naturalists guide girls through different activities—which can count towards badges and journeys.
“We know that capturing the spirit of adventure and conservation at a young age can go a long way in establishing a lifelong appreciation of the outdoors,” ODNR Director Mary Mertz said. “Girl Scouts Love State Parks is an excellent national program and a great way for our park staff to work with local girl scout councils to provide a safe and fun environment for young people to learn.”
The Girl Scouts Love State Parks events include fishing at Alum Creek State Park, nature crafts at Dillon State Park, an owl prowl and wildlife show at Mosquito Lake State Park, stand-up paddleboarding at Lake Loramie State Park and many more activities at those parks and others.
Locally, at Rocky Fork State Park, there will be an Intro to Kayaking session Saturday, Sept. 9 from
8-9 a.m., 9-10 a.m., and 11 a.m.-noon. A “Reptiles of Ohio” session will follow from 1-2 p.m.
