William Curran Kelly

William Curran Kelly, 66, of Lynchburg, passed away Jan. 26, 2025 surrounded by his loved ones. 

He was born Jan. 22, 1959 in Wilmington.

William was the beloved husband of Lora Kelly for 35 years, and a devoted father to seven children.

In Williams’ early years, he took pride in serving his community as a firefighter and EMT, and later in life he worked with Croswell, where he had the honor of driving the Harlem Globetrotters. He dedicated many years to serving others, whether responding to emergencies or ensuring the safety and enjoyment of the Globetrotters on the road, William always went above and beyond to make a positive impact. His passion for helping people was evident in every aspect of his life.

His greatest pride was his family. He found immense joy in the time spent with his children and grandchildren, offering them guidance, love and humor. William’s memory will live on in the many lives he touched. He was a man of integrity, kindness, and laughter, and he will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

His legacy lives on in the hearts of his surviving children, Jessica (Clint) Miller of Jamestown, Matt (Abbagayle) Kelly of Leesburg, Logan (Haley) Kelly of Hillsboro, Mitch (Casey) Kelly of Lynchburg, and Morgan (James) Whiting of Hillsboro; 12 grandchildren, Alyssa, Luke, Chase, Lydia, Annalyse, Andrew, Madilyn, Emilee, Mason, Oliver, Camrynn and Macklyn. 

William was preceded in death by his parents, William and Carol Kelly; his sister, Patricia Justison; and his two children, Miranda and Brian Kelly, who remain forever in the hearts of his family and friends.

Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 29 at the Turner & Son Funeral Home in Hillsboro. Graveside service will be held privately in the Hillsboro Cemetery.
