William C. (Bill) Mason Jr.

William C. (Bill) Mason Jr., 85, of Hillsboro, passed away peacefully Feb. 18, 2024 at his home. 

He was born Dec. 18, 1938 in New Vienna, the son of the late William C. Mason Sr. and Jennie Rayburn Mason. 

Bill graduated from Hillsboro High School in 1956 and furthered his education at Arizona State, Miami (Florida) and Wilmington College.  After college, he joined his father in the family business, Ohio Asphaltic Limestone Co., and in 1968 started Miller-Mason Paving Co. He retired in 2007 and enjoyed wintering in Florida. Bill loved to play golf and tennis, duck hunt and shoot sporting clays. 

Bill is survived by his children, Diana (John) Jones of Hillsboro, Billy (Rhonda) Mason of Hillsboro and Tom (Sandy) Mason of Cold Spring, Ky.; grandchildren, Michele (Aaron) Willey, Craig (Jenn) Jones, Amanda (Chad) Randolph, Amy Mason, Billy (Sarah) Smart, Chris (Kurstin) Mason, Victoria Ballein and Alex Mason; great-grandchildren, Landen Griffith, Aaren Griffith, Lydia Couser, Harper Couser, Logan Camp, Cole Mason, Carter Mason, Liam Smart, Quin Smart, Kathleen Smart, Marlee Ballein, Layla Waugh and Colson Hogsett; and sister, Kay Lowe. 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, C. Anne Mason; daughter, Kathy McDonough; sister and brother-in-law, Ann and Phil Gatch; father- and mother-in-law, Charles and Lena Belle Hill; sister-in-law, Jean Hill and several nieces and nephews. 

In keeping with his wishes, Bill will be cremated.
