Wayne Pierce Tucker, 88, of Greenfield, passed away Saturday, Sept. 24, 2022 at home.
He was born May 1, 1934 in Highland County, the son of Everett and Elizabeth (Galliger) Tucker.
Wayne was drafted into the U.S. Army in late 1956 and worked in aviation for two years in Japan/Korea. He was a member of the F.O.E. #1325, VFW Post 4736 and Amvets Post 61. He enjoyed traveling to Texas and Alabama to go camping during the winter months.
He retired from Range Trucking after 40 years and was awarded a plaque for “one million miles safe driving;” he only missed the “two million miles safe driving” award by 100 miles. After retiring, he worked at Buckskin Township mowing along the highway as well as mowing yards until he was unable.
Prior to that, he owned his own 18-wheeler and route with Robert Hodge Trucking, picking up canned milk and delivering to plants in Columbus and Cincinnati. He also worked for McMullen Trucking, TransAmerica and Thad Hollon Farm Trucking and was a fieldman for Cuddahays Farm in Washington C.H. Also, he and his wife, Bessie, owned and operated Tuckers Restaurant for 22 years.
He is survived by his wife, Bessie Lee (Palmer) Tucker, whom he married July 29, 1953; three sisters, Juanita Hilterbran, Bernice Epling and Henrietta Holbert; three nephews, Rick Burnett, Brian Stanley and J.R. Holbert; three nieces, Jenny Epling, Rita Campbell and Tisha (Aaron) Tacket; one sister-in-law, Juanita Tucker; brother-in-law, Howard Stanley; several great-nieces and great-nephews and a host of friends; his dog, Little John; and special friends, Dale Wilson, Mike Erskine, Brice Ertel, Shaun Ertel, Jeff Palmer and Kathy Saunders.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Katheryn Hilterbran and Dolly Stanley; one brother, Everett Tucker Jr.; two brothers-in-law, Lester Hilterbran and John Hilterbran; one nephew, Dexter Ray Epling; and both parents.
Funeral service will be Thursday, Sept. 29 at 1 p.m. at Murray-Fettro Funeral Home in Greenfield, beginning with veterans appreciation service, then Rev. Jim Blaine to officiate. Burial will follow in the Greenfield Cemetery with military rites provided by the Concerned Veterans of Greenfield.
Visitation will be Thursday from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the funeral home.
