Virgil H. Tharp
Virgil H. Tharp, 72, of Hillsboro, passed away Oct. 8, 2025.
He was born May 13, 1953, in Hillsboro, the son of the late Oscar H. and Blanche R. (Arledge) Tharp.
Virgil proudly served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. He was a graduate of Hillsboro High School, where he was a member of the wrestling team and held the record for shot put and was a weight lifter. He enjoyed the Cincinnati Bengals and the Cincinnati Reds.
Virgil was baptized along with his brother, Gary, on Feb. 4, 1990 at the Hillsboro Church of Christ.
He is survived by his loving sisters, Marilyn (Dale) Willey, Jackie (Wayne) Campton, Rebecca (Robert) Creamer and Brenda Parker. In addition, he leaves behind a host of cherished nieces and nephews, including Kandice (Nate) Morris, Stephanie (Timothy) Carpenter, Eddie Troxall, Jacob Music, Landen Music, Masen Music, Becky Parker, John (Tracy) Parker, Melissa Campton, John Williamson Jr., Carla Williamson, Nicole Hughes and Merle "Beebo" Willey; several great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins and a host of friends.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Gary Tharp; and his sister, Peggy Williamson.
Visitation will be noon-1 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 15 at the Thompson Funeral Home in Hillsboro.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 15 at the funeral home with burial following at the Hillsboro Cemetery. Military graveside rites will be conducted by the Highland County Veterans Honor Guard.
