Samuel “Sam” Paul Miller

Samuel “Sam” Paul Miller, 79, of Greenfield, passed away Monday, Jan. 27, 2025, at his home surrounded by his family. 

He was born Dec. 21, 1945, in Lynchburg, the son of the late Samuel Marion Miller and Margaret (Oppy) Crooks. 

Sam proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He was a life member of the Greenfield Fraternal Order of Eagles 1325, life member of the Bainbridge American Legion Post 197, and a member of the Greenfield VFW Post 4736. Sam was a truck driver for over 50 years, working for the Bob Brothers, R+L Carriers, Winchester Grain, Candle-Lite, Cox Paving, and Cockrill Concrete. Although he enjoyed being a truck driver for a living, his true passion was woodworking and his love for his family. He will be deeply missed. 

Sam is survived by his life-long partner, Pat Gregory; a son, Jeromey Scott Miller; a daughter-in-law, Joanna Kay Miller; grandchildren, Kayla (Tye) Adkins, Jacob (Jenny) Miller, Mathew (Collin Sillman) Miller, Eli (Jess Roberts) Elliott, Ivey Appleman and Jacey Moore; great-grandchildren, Aubri Mick, Makynna Adkins, Koltyn Adkins, Linkyn Adkins, Gatlyn Miller, Kennedy Jones and Lucie Carey; two siblings, Margaret Stanley and Roger (Vicki) Miller; mother to Sam’s children, Joyce Ann Miller; and many nieces, nephews and friends. 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, James Samuel Miller; a sister, Elizabeth Holt; and a brother-in-law, Theodore Stanley. 

Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 4 at the Turner Funeral Home in Leesburg. Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 5 at the funeral home. Burial, with military honors presented by the Highland County Honor Guard, will follow services in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery.
