Ruth Evelyn Hancock
Ruth Evelyn Hancock, 96, of Huber Heights, formerly of Highland County, passed away peacefully on Friday, Jan. 30, 2026, at Shawnee Estates Senior Living in Xenia.
She was born on May 14, 1929, in the Gist Settlement of Highland County, the beloved daughter of the late Osro and Susan (Smith) Turner.
Mrs. Hancock devoted many years of her life to caring for others as a practical nurse at Clinton Memorial Hospital, a role that reflected her gentle spirit and compassion. Her faith was a guiding force throughout her life. She was a longtime member of the World Peace Tabernacle in Xenia and more recently attended New Beginnings Church of God in Huber Heights, where she continued to find joy in worship and fellowship.
Mrs. Hancock found happiness in life’s simple pleasures. She enjoyed cooking for those she loved, attending church and church functions, going out to eat, visiting yard sales, and taking long drives with her late husband, Charles. Above all else, Ruth cherished her role as a mother and grandmother. Her greatest joy came from spending time with her family, whom she loved deeply and unconditionally.
Mrs. Hancock will be remembered for her kindness, unwavering faith, and the love she so freely gave. Her legacy lives on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her.
Mrs. Hancock is survived by her seven children, Larry (Lenora) Banks of Columbus, Charles Michael (Debbi) Hancock of Tipp City, Sondra Brown of Huber Heights, Sandra Hancock of Dayton, Charma Battle of Columbus, Charlotte (Frank) McClain of Huber Heights, and Donald Hancock of Dayton; a brother, James Turner of Urbana and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Henry Hancock on May 25, 2002; two sons, Thurman Hancock and Richard Hancock; three sisters, Elsie Rankin, Mildred Henry, and Hattie Lacy; daughter-in-law, Rita Hancock; two sons-in-law, Anthony Battle and Vincent Brown.
Visitation will be 11 a.m.-1 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 6 at the Turner & Son Funeral Home in Hillsboro. Funeral services will take place at 1 p.m. following visitation on Friday at the funeral home.
