Patty was a 1965 graduate of Edward Lee McClain High School, attended Southern Seminary in Buena Vista, Va. and was a graduate of the University of Kentucky.

Patty enjoyed her work as an administrative assistant, meeting clients at the accounting office of Snider, Corales & Associates in Lexington for many years. Entrepreneurship didn’t allude her as she developed “Kentucky Baskets”, which was a gift giving business similar to a floral shop. Instead of sending flowers people could fill the “Kentucky Basket” with various creations made by Kentucky artisans.

Patty spent many years in Lexington and nurtured friendships beyond measure. She never forgot her hometown friends, who she cherished in her later years when she returned home to Greenfield. She was quite the storyteller and always left her friends laughing. She so enjoyed her McClain H.S. classmate gatherings when she was able to attend. Patty felt so blessed to have her friends close and valued the time they spent with her.

She is survived by her children, John Robert Mertz of Frankfort, Kentucky and Mary Patricia Mertz (Jonathan) Beane of Prospect, Kentucky; her grandchildren, Sarah Rose (Jon) Wilson, Tyler (Karissa) Mertz, Clay (Summer) Mertz, Bryant Beane, and Beth Anne Beane, all of Kentucky; several great-grandchildren; and multiple cousins near and far.

She was preceded in death by her daughter in infancy, Leslie Ann Wilkin; her sister, Mary Lou Mertz; and both parents.

A celebration of life for Patty will be planned for a later date in November.
