Mary Jo (Moon) Hughes, 77, of Kettering, formerly of New Vienna, passed away Friday, Sept. 2, 2022 at the Kettering Medical Center, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born April 6, 1945 in New Vienna, the daughter of the late Archie and Louise (Snively) Moon.

Mary Jo had been a bus driver for East Clinton Schools for more than 25 years. She was a talented, creative person who enjoyed painting and sewing. In addition, she also loved reading, gardening, laughing with family and friends, apple martinis and hot doctors. Most of all, she loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and was so proud of them and their successes. She will be forever missed.

Mary Jo is survived by her high school sweetheart and husband of 59 years, John William Hughes Sr.; her daughter, who considered her mother her best friend, Marta Tashan and her husband Bora of Kettering; son, Bill Hughes and his wife Shelley of Lynchburg; grandchildren (she was more than a grandmother to them, she was their rock), LeAnn (Kent) Hackney, Bradley (Elizabeth) Hughes, Christopher (Marissa) Hughes and Aris Tashan; great-grandchildren, Peyton Garen, Leila Hughes, Janelle Capehart, Brody Hackney, Cooper Thompson, Aiden Hughes and Bryn Hughes; faithful longtime friends, Clara Ferguson, Judy Achor and Jackie Vanzant, and special friend Jackie Howard; and lastly, her beloved Bo, who was her constant companion and cuddler.

Because of her love of reading, in lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made to the New Vienna Library, 114 W. Main Street, New Vienna, Ohio, 45159.

Memorial services will be held later at the convenience of the family. Brown Funeral Home, Wilmington, is assisting the family.
