Mary Alice (Ring) Ellis was born in Sardinia on June 23, 1937 to Lorin William and Alice Edith (Baker) Ring. 

She finished her sojourn on earth Oct. 21, 2025.  

Mary Alice graduated from Sardinia High School in 1955, recently celebrating her 70th alumni, and worked for a year at the VA hospital in Cincinnati. Despite that, her dream was to be a wife and mother, and she excelled at it. Known for her creativity and ingenuity, she orchestrated church programs, vacation Bible schools, PTO fundraisers and sewed clothing and costumes. The family has wonderful memories of weeklong vacations for six people in a pop-up camper. As the children grew up, she worked part-time with her husband, Jimmy, at Ellis Feed Mill as a secretary and bookkeeper.  

To mourn her passing, Mary Alice leaves children, Sandy (Andy) Purdy, Jeff (Kathy) Ellis, Susan (Rick) Crowe and Leigh Anne (Dave) Granger; grandchildren, Ricardo Ullon, Randal (Todd) McClimans,  Rhett Purdy, Stephanie (Taylor) Brashear, Jessica (Ezequiel) Alvarez, James (Sabine) Ellis, Carlie (Bryan) Lee, Nathan (Melissa) Walters, Brandon (Alex) Walters, Eli Walters, Ellie Walters, Hannah (Clay) Garrett and Jacob (Leslie) Granger; great-grandchildren, Gabriel Ullon, Vaughn and Ward McClimans, Mary, Charlotte and Jeb Brashear, June and Jovi Alvarez, Mattie, Lia and Lily Ellis, Toby Walters, Elizabeth, Ben and John Walters, Elliot Walters, Caroline, Alice and Marie Garrett; three nephews. Marty (Evelyn) Yockey, Dan (Kim) Yockey and Neil (Kelley) Yockey; and many great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Jimmy R. Ellis, on Sept. 12, 2022; their infant twin sons; her sister, Barbara Lee and their parents; and her granddaughter, Robin Purdy.

The funeral will be Saturday, Oct. 25 at Sardinia Hope Church,105 S. Main St., Sardinia, with visitation beginning at 10 a.m. and the service following at noon. Pastors Jim Schroeder and Greg Inboden will be  officiating. After interment in the Sardinia Cemetery, a meal will be served at the church for family and friends.

Edgington Funeral Home, Mowrystown, has been entrusted with the arrangements.
