LaVerne Holbrook
LaVerne Holbrook, a cherished, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and lifelong farmer, peacefully entered eternal rest at the home of his daughter on Jan. 31, 2026, at the age of 94.
LaVerne was born May 2, 1931 at home on his parents,' Herbert and Effie (Williams) Holbrook, farm in Hamer Township near Danville.
LaVerne attended the one-room White Schoolhouse in Hamer Township, Highland County, through grade school and was a 1948 graduate of Hillsboro High School. He also attended Wilmington College for a year before deciding to return to farming full time with his dad. He was a lifelong farmer with 40 of those years devoted to dairy farming.
A man of profound faith, LaVerne found strength and solace in his devotion to God, living a life characterized by kindness, humility and unwavering love for those around him. He was a past Deacon and Elder at the Hollowtown Church of Christ and taught Sunday school for many years with LuAnne, attending the Union Church of Christ in their later years. He was not only a steward of the earth but also a guiding light to his loved ones, instilling values of hard work, integrity and compassion in all who knew him.
LaVerne was board member of the Highland County Agricultural Society for 32 years, being inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2000. He served on the Highland County ASCS County Committee. He leaves behind a legacy of devotion to family, faith and community, a true testament to a life well-lived.
He is survived by his daughter, Jeanie (Daryl) Fauber; daughter-in-law, Kathy Holbrook; grandchildren, Jon (Jana) Holbrook, Megan (Alan) Blackburn, Craig (Morgan) Fauber and Kyle (Octavia) Fauber; great-grandchildren, Maddie, Mason, Karsyn, Mallory, Carter, Kelley, Makenna, Miley, Claire and Oakley; sister-in-law, Sandy Jones; brother-in-law, Bob Stubbs; nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, LuAnne (Stubbs) Holbrook; one son, Jeff Holbrook; brothers, Proctor Holbrook and Lloyd (Edith) Holbrook; infant brother, Exley Holbrook; and sister-in-law, Peggy Lyle.
Visitation will be noon-2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 4 at the Union Church of Christ, 3021 N. Taylorsville Road, Hillsboro. Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at the church with Glenn Hess officiating. Burial will follow at the Mt. Zion Cemetery.
