James W. Milburn, 97 of Hillsboro, passed away peacefully Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2025 at his home.  

He was born Feb. 8, 1928 in Highland County, the son of the late George Wilford and Mary (Rhoads) Milburn.  

Mr. Milburn was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during the Korean War, and was a life member of the Amvets Post 61. He was always a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather.   

He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Bonnie and Joe Florence; a son and daughter-in-law Jim and Sandy Milburn; his life partner of 12 years Sue Turner, and her family; grandchildren, Jade Hook, Aaron (Amanda) Milburn, Sherry (Brett) Tekavic, Stephanie (Nathan) Hoskins, Kimberly (Mike) Awrine, Joe (Christy) Florence, Kristina Florence, Stacy Lawwill, Jeff Lawwill, Tonya Lawwill and Tommy Lawwill; many great-grandchildren; siblings Joseph (Nancy) Milburn, Dollie Landess and Hazel Hufford; three sisters-in-law, Nancy Milburn, Virginia Milburn and Glenda Milburn; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.  

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Helen (Jones) Milburn; a son, Jonathan T. Milburn; a stepson, Tommy Lawwill; and three brothers, Charles W. “Chuck” Milburn, Kenneth Dean Milburn and Jerry Milburn.  

In keeping with his wishes, a graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 26 at the Resthaven Memory Gardens, where The Highland County Veteran’s Honor Guard will present military honors.
