James P. Benner

James P. Benner, 83, of Greenfield, passed away Monday, Jan. 26, 2026 at home, surrounded by loved ones.
 
He was born July 13, 1942 in Greenfield, the son of John Cecil and Mildred (Truitt) Benner.
 
He was a 1961 graduate of Buckskin Valley High School, was a member of the Greenfield Antique Tractor Club, Paint Valley Tractor Club, past 4-H Frogtown Thrifter adviser, and lifelong member of Fruitdale United Methodist Church, now known as the Fruitdale Community Church.
 
He is survived by three children, Danny (Willa) Benner, Michelle (Chuck) Rayburn and Jeff (Samantha) Benner all of Greenfield; Papaw’s six grandchildren, Casey Benner, Amanda Unger, Levi (Cortney) Rayburn, Lauren Rayburn, Shyann (Sederick) Brigner and Kenzie Benner; G-Pa’s nine great-grandchildren, Stevie, Amerie, Taylor, Gracie, Bo, Kip, Josie, Rhett and Dustin; many nieces and nephews; longtime friend, Joe Miller of Greenfield; and pet companion, Tissy.
 
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dena Jeanette Benner, on March 8, 2020; one great-grandson, Wesley Benner; one brother, Charles Benner; and both parents.
 
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 7 at the Murray-Fettro Funeral Home in Greenfield with Pastor Jeff Barnhart officiating. Burial will follow in the South Salem Cemetery.
 
Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 6 at the funeral home.
