Helen Pauline Groppenbacher, 98, passed away Sept. 20, 2022.

Born in 1924, she decided that after 98 years, it was time to go see her dance partner in life, her husband, John Hubert Groppenbacher; her beloved daughter, Barbara Ann Cummings Stewart; devoted son-in-law George E. Chambers; and cherished granddaughter-in-law Wilma Chambers, in heaven and have a lively game of Pitch, the card game the family played with a passion. God has his hands full now.

She was feisty, fun and furiously fierce when she decided to be. She enjoyed playing cards, bird watching and flowers. She was also known to hop on a motorcycle when she fancied. She was an exquisite cook and baker of pies.

She is survived by her daughter, Floris Jane Chambers; her grandchildren, Larry Cummings, Willa J. Chambers, David Cummings, Orlando Chambers, Linda Leach, Bob Cummings and George T. Chambers; six great-grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Graveside service will be Wednesday, Sept. 28 at 11 a.m. at the Hillsboro Cemetery. A gathering at the farm at 2508 Harriet Road, Hillsboro will be held after the service.
