George O. Hopkins, 95, of Hillsboro, passed away Saturday, Dec. 31, 2022.
George was born Jan. 22, 1927 in Belfast, the son of the late Harley and Verda (Rhoads) Hopkins.
George worked several years for the Smith and Hopkins Lumber Company in Hillsboro until his retirement.
George is survived by three daughters, Roberta (Norman) Carmean, Linda Fairley and Joan (Dale) Bayless all of Hillsboro; two sons, Oscar (Diane) Hopkins and Norman (Mary) Fent both of Hillsboro; eight grandchildren, Daphanie (Michael) Elmore, Mandie (Tracy) Workman, John Henry Jennings, Brenda (Jerry) Hopkins, Ralph (Christi) Hopkins, Kelly (Ron) Sockman, Brittany Bayless and Chad Fairley; several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.
Besides his parents, George was preceded in death by his wife, Betty J. (Smith) Hopkins, on Oct. 4, 1997; five brothers, Cecil, Clarence, Eugene “Gene,” Archie and Burch Hopkins; and one sister, Emma Hopkins.
Funeral services will be noon Wednesday, Jan. 4 at the Thompson Funeral Home in Hillsboro. Pastor Greg Roberts will officiate with burial following in the Resthaven Memory Gardens. Friends may call Wednesday from 10 a.m.-noon at the funeral home.
