Gene A. Brewer

Gene A. Brewer, 93 of Hillsboro, passed away Monday, Aug. 10, 2026, at home in New Salisbury, Ind.

He was born Feb. 8 1933, in Berea, Ky. to the late George M. and Martha F. (Day) Brewer.

Gene served in the Navy during the Korean War and later worked for the U.S. Postal Service until retirement. He was proud to have obtained a private pilot's license and loved to fly family and friends around the country.

He is survived by his son, Douglas Gene Brewer; and daughter, Rachelle Lynn Winfree; stepson, Scott Carlson; two sisters, Patricia Short and Barbara Everidge; seven grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, George Jr., Russell, Noel and Delbert Brewer; two stepsons, Kevin and Derek Carlson; and his loving wife, Karen Elizabeth (Uphoff) Brewer, whom he married on Feb. 24, 1985.

Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 25 at 1 p.m. at the Dayton National Cemetery, 4400 W. Third St., Dayton.

Friends may call from 10-11 a.m. at the Thompson Funeral Home, 241 E. Main St., Hillsboro.
