Fred Ashton Barney, 91, of Hillsboro passed away Friday, June 15, 2018 at the Hospice of Hope’s Inpatient Center at Adams County Regional Medical Center in Seaman.
He is survived by his wife, Margery Collins Barney; three children, Rebecca Barney of Chillicothe, John (Colleen) Barney of Hillsboro and Ellen (Jay) Barney Sycks of Columbus; two grandchildren, Cullen and Susanna Barney of Hillsboro; and several nieces and nephews.
Fred was born April 17, 1927 in New Vienna and grew up in the Hillsboro area. He was the son of Fred E. and Lamara “Mollie” (Tolle) Barney.
He was preceded in death by his son, Brian Ashton Barney; his parents; his brothers, Robert and Roy Barney; and his sister, Geneva Carter.
Fred was a veteran of World War II, where he served in the Army Air Corps (Air Force). He was a 60-year member and past master of the Highland Lodge 38 F&AM and a member of the Hillsboro Elks Lodge 361. He had retired after 35 years of service as a production supervisor with the Randall Textron Company in Wilmington.
He was an avid sports fan, having a passion for the Hillsboro Indians, Ohio State Buckeyes and the Cleveland Browns.
Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, June 21 at the Turner & Son Funeral Home in Hillsboro. The Rev. Larry Stewart will officiate. Burial will follow, with military Honors presented by the Highland County Veterans Honor Guard, in the Hillsboro Cemetery.
Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Turner & Son Funeral Home. Masonic services will be held on Wednesday at 7:45 p.m. at the funeral home.
