Fred B. “Dean” Cox Jr., 67, of Leesburg, passed away Friday, Sept. 30, 2022 with family by his side.

He was born April 17, 1955 in Greenfield, the son of Fred B. Cox Sr., and Telytha Maude (Baker) Cox.

Dean was a 1973 graduate of Fairfield High School and attended Southern State Community College real estate classes. He enjoyed reading, watching Westerns, shooting and spending time with family and friends.

He was the owner and founder of Cox Paving and later went into farming and enjoyed sitting at the “round table” with the local farmers.

He is survived by his wife, Cindy L. (Davis) Cox, whom he married on June 30, 1973; two sons, Fred (Amy) Cox and Gregory (Jennifer) Cox; four grandchildren, Heather (Austin) Storer, Brittany (Robert) Scott, Gavin Cox and Gwen Cox; two stepgrandsons, Wyatt and Spencer Crothers; one great-granddaughter, Sadie Storer; one brother, Joseph (Marcelina) Cox; five sisters, Teresa Hester, Laura (Wilber) Young, Pamela (Warren) Hester, Trudy (David) Howland and Cindy (Rick) Simmons; many nieces and nephews; special friends, Tom and Lennie Fillmore; and his two dogs, Dan and Dexter.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Victoria Hodge and Cecilia Cox; and both parents.

Funeral service will be noon Tuesday, Oct. 4 at Murray-Fettro Funeral Home in Greenfield with Pastor Emerson Montgomery officiating. Burial will follow in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery of Leesburg.

Visitation will be 10 a.m.-noon Tuesday at the funeral home.
