Eugene H. “Gene” Ludwick Sr.

Eugene H. “Gene” Ludwick Sr., 88 of Hillsboro, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 25, 2026 at Adena Regional Medical Center in Chillicothe.  

He was born Oct. 11, 1937 in Hillsboro, the son of the late Donald Norman and Mary Frances (Zink) Ludwick.  

Gene retired after a long career as a master carpenter. He was a member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary Rocky Fork Detachment Flotilla 06-10, was a founding member of the Highland County Antique Machinery Club and enjoyed blacksmithing where he made cooking racks and other metal creations.

He was always happiest working in his shop during his free time. Gene was extremely generous and kind and would do anything for a loved one or friend in need. He will be greatly missed.  

He is survived by two children, Eugene Jr. (Mary) Ludwick and Carol (Chris) James, both of Frankfort; two brothers, Richard J. “Rick” (Karen) Ludwick of New Vienna and David E. (Dorothy) Ludwick of Hillsboro; long-time companion, Pat Ludwick of Hillsboro; grandchildren, Shay (Tim) Cottrill, Julie (Aaron) Castle, Jeb (Sara) Ludwick, Luke (Jackie) James, Mason (Megan) James, Shelly (Jason) Young and Brandon Birchfield; great-grandchildren, Addy, Jayden, Vincent, Jackson, Nick, Brody, Jasper, Rex, Madeline, Macey, Haven, JaMar, Annia and JaZon.  

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two stepchildren, Debbie McElwee and Chris Fawley.  

Visitation will be 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Thursday, March 5 at the Turner & Son Funeral Home in Hillsboro, followed by funeral services. The Rev. Tom Zile will officiate. Burial will follow in the Hillsboro Cemetery.
