Daniel K. Dalton

Daniel K. Dalton, 77, of Hillsboro, passed away Sept. 12, 2026. 

He was born Feb. 2, 1949, in Pike County, the son of William Dalton and Glenna Hatfield Dalton Deaton.

A graduate of Miami Trace High School, Daniel went on to serve his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. His service and love of country remained an important part of his life. He was a member of American Legion Post 14 in Bainbridge and AMVETS Post 61 in Hillsboro.
 
Daniel lived with a little gasoline in his veins and rebellion in his soul. He loved fast cars, motorcycles and the open road, but what stayed with him were the people and stories collected along the way. He was often asked to lead memorial rides for those who had gone before him, an honor he carried with pride. There were friendships forged over countless miles and stories that grew better with every telling.
 
Daniel lived life on his own terms, stubbornly and without apology. He could raise a little hell, speak his mind, stand his ground and never saw much reason to be anyone other than exactly who he was. He had the kind of presence you noticed, the kind you sometimes heard before you saw, and the kind you never imagined could simply be gone. There was no mistaking when he entered a room, and when he left, he had a way of making sure the roar of his motorcycle lingered long after he was out of sight. And for those who knew and loved him, the road will be a little quieter without him on it.
 
Daniel is survived by his children, Brian (Hilary) Dalton, Danielle (Rick) Grogan, Alisha Rinehart and Beth (Todd) Bullinger; his grandchildren, Chance (Sabrina) Mick, Shaylin (Bo) Ledley, Angelin (Caleb) Morgan, Ebrahim Alakraf, Leona Dalton, Fatma Alakraf, Tristen Dalton, Amna Alakraf, Alia Alakraf, Asha Alakraf and Berkley Bullinger; and his great-grandchildren, Nilan Ledley, Laken Morgan, Avaley Ledley, Orry Ledley, Daniel Dalton, Arean Mick and Daenerys Mick. 

He also leaves behind his sister, Teresa Dewine; brothers, Arthur Wayne (June) Dalton and William Dennis (Kathy) Dalton; stepbrother, Gary Deaton; numerous nieces and nephews; and his cousin and lifelong best friend, Jack Cyrus.
 
In addition to his parents, Daniel was preceded in death by his stepfather, William Deaton; sister, Dixie Dalton; brother-in-law, Robert Bruce Dewine; and great-grandson, Emmett Duncan.
 
A gathering of friends and family will be held 11 am to 2 pm, Wednesday, September 23, 2026, at the Smith-Moore-Ebright Funeral Home, Bainbridge and will conclude with military honors by the Ross County Honor Guard.
