Charles Everett "Charlie" Copeland, 87, passed away Sept. 28, 2022 in Highland County.

He was born April 30, 1935 in Pike County.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ora David Copeland and Reetha Mildred Ashbaugh; one brother, John Richard Copeland; two sisters, Opal Skidmore and Wilma Pulver.

Charlie was a lifelong trader and breeder of horses, selling horses to those far and wide. He prided himself on breeding good working horses with foundation bloodlines and a splash of color. He loved to get kids started in 4-H and to foster a love of horses in all those he met.

Many a tall tale and a horse were swapped under his old shade tree. He was well-loved and will be sorely missed as he rode off into the sunset one last time.

Charlie is survived by his wife, Mary Jo (Reno) Copeland; daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and Anthony Throckmorton of Hillsboro; stepsons, Chad Shelton of Hillsboro and Kelly Shelton of Riverview, Fla.; grandchildren, Anne and James Throckmorton of Hillsboro; a brother, Frank Copeland of Midland, a sister, Mary Hawk of Blanchester; a sister-in-law, Margaret Copeland of Cecilia, Ky.; and a host of nieces, nephews, cherished friends, neighbors and old horse trading buddies.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 4 at the Thompson Funeral Home in Hillsboro. Friends may call Monday, Oct. 3 from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Private graveside services will be held in the Fenner Cemetery in Hillsboro.
