Bertha M. Clark Hadley, 93, of Clarksville, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2025 at the Courtyard of Wheelersburg Assisted Living Facility.
She was born June 19, 1931 in Blanchester, the daughter of the late Ishmael and Rosa (Mattingly) Clark.
A charter member of the Wilmington Church of Christ (Christian), she retired from Wilmington City Schools as a fourth- and fifth-grade teacher. After retirement, she enjoyed being a volunteer at Clinton Memorial Hospital. Bertha and Joe also were very active in the Relay for Life that raised money for the American Cancer Society. She moved to Wheelersburg with her daughter after having CoVid in 2020. In 2022, she moved into the Courtyard of Wheelersburg. The family would like to thank the administration and staff at Courtyard of Wheelersburg for their superior care and compassion.
She is survived by her daughter, Virginia Hadley White of Wheelersburg; grandchildren, Joseph (Denise) White of Chillicothe, Joshua (Paityn Breech) White of Wheelersburg, Alyssa (Rob) Guenther Powell of Holly Springs, N.C. and Justin Guenther of Cincinnati; great-grandchildren, Elijah Joseph Powell, Hannah Powell, Orion Bullard and Tristan White; son-in-law, Carl (Deb) Guenther of Wilmington; three brothers, Virgil (Kathy) Clark, Herman (Gail) Clark and Jeff Clark; six sisters, Mary Ellen (Jean, deceased) Woods, Phyllis (Chuck, deceased) Rosenberger, Genevieve (David) Cornett, Ula (Mike) Strelecky and Alicia (Paul) Rosenberger; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Wilbur Hadley, whom she married April 10, 1954. Also preceding her in death were her daughter, Susan Hadley Guenther; brothers, Thomas Clark, Harold Clark and Layman Clark; and an infant sister, Wilma Jane Clark.
Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 22 at Fisher-Edgington Funeral Home, 97 West Locust Street at North Mulberry Street, Wilmington, with Pastor Stephen Wetterhan officiating. Interment will follow in the Clarksville Cemetery, Clarksville. Friends will be received from noon until the time of services on Saturday.
