Wilkin re-appointed as commission chairman

Shane Wilkin was re-appointed as chairman/president of the Highland County Board of Commissioners at the board's organizational meeting Monday, Jan. 11.

Commissioner Tom Horst made a motion to leave the board structure "as  is," and Commissioner Gary Heaton seconded the motion.

By a 3-0 vote, commissioners re-appointed Wilkin as chairman and Horst as vice-chairman.

In other action, commissioners re-appointed Arlene Cole and Christopher Lewis to the Highland County Children Services Board. Horst abstained from the vote, referencing that Lewis is his accountant.
In other action, commissioners approved the following resolutions, all
by 3-0 votes:
The Board of County Commissioners of Highland County, Ohio resolved
that Wednesday of each and every week shall be Regular Session Day
with Thursday as its Regular Session Day when any Wednesday is a legal
holiday, until fifty (50) Regular Sessions have been held during the
year 2010, in accordance with section 305.06 of the Ohio Revised Code,
and that eve ry other session of said Board held when a quorum is
present for the conduct of business shall be and is an adjourned
session of said Board unless otherwise designated.
The agreement to the appointment of the Joint Solid Waste Management
District Committee for 2010.
The agreement to rehire the following county employees: Debbie
Sansone, Clerk to the Board; Tim Hart, Dog Warden; Thomas Perrin,
Maintenance; Wendell Sparks, Maintenance; Vivica Williams,
Maintenance; Rick Rammel, Maintenance; Ron Coffey, Clerk of County
Court; Monica George, Deputy Clerk; Paul Orr, Bailiff/Deputy Clerk;
Jon Parr, Jodie Staggs, Probation Department; Jay Dee Burba and Aaron
White, Chore Service; Larry Barr, Zoning Inspection (Salem Township);
Daniel Cowdrey, Economic Development; Pat Moore, Secretary for
Economic Development; Dori Bishop, Recycling; and Jim Lyle, EMA
Director.
The agreement to make the following appointments to the Community
Development Block Grant Complaint Procedure: Debbie Robbins,
EEO/Complaint Officer; Bill Fawley, Alternate EEO/Complaint Officer;
Shane Wilkin, Hearing Officer.
The approval of travel of the Board of County Commissioners, Gary
Heaton, Tom Horst, and Shane Wilkin, to the following meetings, as
necessary for 2010: all County Commissioners' Association of Ohio
meetings; District Solid Waste; Ohio Valley Regional Development
Commission (OVDRC) Executive and Regular meetings; South Central
Resource & Development Council (RC&D) meetings; Area Agency of Aging;
Job & Family Services Advisory Council; Community Development Block
Grant (CDBG); HFC Safety Council Meetings; plus any other meetings
deemed necessary to carry out the business of the Board of County
Commissioners.
The agreement that the amount to be paid on animal claims for 2010
shall be set at 50% of the market value of the stock killed by dogs.
The reappointment of the following Children Services Board Members for
four-year terms: Christopher Lewis, Jan. 1, 2010 to Dec. 31, 2014; and Arlene
Cole, Jan. 1, 2010 to Dec. 31, 2014.
