A crowd of nearly 300 community members gathered at the Mowrystown Cemetery to honor and remember those who served in our country’s armed forces.

The Whiteoak High School band led the parade and played patriotic songs for the service. Cemetery Association President Fred Yochum recognized many groups and individuals for assisting with the event and gave special mention to the Whiteoak track team who will compete at the state meet.

The Highland County Honor Guard and members of the Roy Wilson VFW Post gave a 21-gun salute to honor the fallen.

Greg Harvey, the Memorial Day speaker, honored his family members who had served. He spoke about the many wars and conflicts fought for our freedom and encouraged everyone to live in a way that shows respect to one another and honor our country.
