UPDATED 2: Greenfield council votes to move election to Nov. 5

A special election for Greenfield voters set for July 15 was now “pending until further notice,” according to the Highland County Board of Elections on June 3.

However, during a June 3 Greenfield Village Council meeting, council passed an emergency resolution authorizing the clerk to "immediately notify the Highland County Board of Elections to place the issue on the ballot in accordance with Ohio Revised Code 705.01 for the November 2024 general election."

Highland County BOE Director Michelle Swallen confirmed to The Highland County Press Monday that the previously announced date is “pending until further notice.”

The election had been scheduled for voters to determine whether to maintain the current form of government (city manager).

According to a letter provided to The Highland County Press, the Highland County Board of Elections has asked the citizens initiative behind the proposed governmental change to consider placing the matter on the regular election ballot in November. They have asked for a decision to be made “by the end of the day Tuesday, June 4.”

However, a spokesperson for the reform committee told The Highland County Press on June 4, "This is completely out of our hands. We filed the petition on April 17 in accordance with the law."

• Note: An earlier version of this story incorrectly stated that council members Cory Taylor and Carlos Ooten voted against changing the election date. Their votes were against declaring an emergency. A later council vote was unanimous.
