Turner announces grant for financial education for low-income families in Dayton

Congressman Mike Turner has announced that the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development's Public and Indian Housing Self-Sufficiency Program has awarded a $65,000 grant to the Dayton Metropolitan Housing Authority. The funds will aid low income families as they seek to gain financial independence and purchase their own home.
"Participating in this program has led to many families achieving stable employment, which has made it possible for them to become homeowners or move on to other non-assisted living. During these tough times, I'm proud to support programs which make it easier for members of our community gain financial independence and provide a stable home for their families," said Turner.
The purpose of the Public Housing program is to promote the development of local strategies to coordinate the use of assistance under the Public Housing program with public and private resources, enable participating families to increase earned income and financial literacy, reduce or eliminate the need for welfare assistance, and make progress toward achieving economic independence and housing self-sufficiency.
The Family Self-Sufficiency program provides critical tools that can be used by communities to support welfare reform and help families develop new skills that will lead to economic self-sufficiency.[[In-content Ad]]
