Tempers flare in 17th Senate District race

State Representative David Daniels has responded to what he calls "blatant lies in a campaign mailing from his opponent, Clyde Evans."

Daniels told The Highland County Press that Evans sent voters in Ohio's 17th Senate District a mailing saying that “Danger is closer than you think” and that Daniels “supports sexual predators on our streets."

"These outlandish statements are blatantly false," Daniels said.

 “This false attack from Clyde Evans is despicable. Plain and simple, it is absolutely false and I will not stand by and let Clyde Evans lie about my record. I have a clear voting record of supporting legislation that cracks down on sexual predators and I have always been a strong advocate for protecting those that are most vulnerable in our society. This mail piece is nothing but a mudslinging effort by a desperate politician who will stop at nothing to try to get elected.

Daniels added, “Today we are meeting with attorneys in preparation to file a complaint against Clyde Evans with the Ohio Elections Commission. If we cannot trust Clyde Evans to tell the truth in the campaign, how we can trust him to tell the truth in the State Senate? To me, there is nothing more important than the truth. Apparently truthfulness, dignity, and honor are not important to Clyde Evans. I was a co-sponsor of the SORN legislation that Clyde references, and Clyde knows that I did not vote to support sexual predators. He is lying to try to win an election, and that is too bad. The voters deserve better.”
