Suspect in student abduction facing murder charge

The Georgetown Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating if a shot was fired while in pursuit of a suspect and an alleged abduction victim from the Fincastle campus of Southern State Community College.
Lt. Randy McElfresh, commander of the Georgetown Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol told The Highland County Press that they are continuing to investigate the incident.
"We received a 911 call this morning that a 29-year-old female had been forcibly taken (from the SSCC Fincastle campus) and placed in a vehicle," McElfresh said.
McElfresh said that the victim had dialed 911 on her cell phone and had an open line with their communications center while the incident was ongoing.
"They wound up in West Union where a West Union officer located the vehicle. They were spotted by the Adams County Sheriff's Office and with the West Union Police Department and three to four (OSHP troopers) were involved in a short pursuit. At one point the suspect drove into a farm field in an attempt to get away and got stuck. The officers engaged the vehicle and he was taken into custody without incident."
McElfresh said that they are still compiling information on the incident and pursuit and could not confirm reports that a trooper had fired a shot at the vehicle.
"We're trying to piece that together," McElfresh said.
According to a report from The Cincinnati Enquirer, "At one point, a trooper fired a shot at the suspect vehicle’s tires, trying to flatten them."
He did not know if the suspect and victim knew each other, but that was also part of the investigation.
Cincinnati news stations reported that the victim was restrained with duct tape, but McElfresh said he had not heard that, but that the incident was still under investigation.
"Both the suspect and the victim are being interviewed as we speak," he said.
SSCC President Dr. Kevin Boys said they are receiving reports that the victim and the suspect knew each other, but that the college was still gathering facts on the incident.
The Post will consult with the Brown County Prosecutor's Office regarding what charges may be filed, and McElfresh said that it was too early to say what charges they are considering.
McElfresh said that the incident could have had a very different result, but the officers were able to follow protocol and resolve the situation safely.
"I think it was setting up to be a very volatile situation, but everyone responded appropriately, and it ended up good with no altercations and no injuries," McElfresh said.

On Thursday, Goshen Township police released information about the death of 69-year-old Richard Parsons. Police say Nathan Parsons, 29, killed his stepfather around 3 a.m. at 227 Mindy Lane in Loveland Tuesday and transported the body to Goshen Township."
Parsons confessed to the murder, WCPO reported.
He is being charged with one count of aggravated murder and one count of aggravated robbery in Clermont County Common Pleas Court.
